She steps out of the house looking perfect and superb! Smelling just right and wearing the best of clothes. Is this how the women of today envision herself?
In a country obsessed with fair skin and looking perfect the woman are constantly under pressure to look awesome and fair. Women spend thousands on looking good, maintaining their figure and buying the best of clothes to fit into the stereotype. Here is a list of things that is wrong with this blind faith.
1. Money Wasted
The beauty business in countries like India is thriving because women would go to any extent to look beautiful. While standing at the aisle in supermarket, I sometimes wonder, if the woman standing in front of me is naturally fair (since I was born naturally with it). There is tinge of make-up with the new trend #nomakeup (makeup that looks almost as if you are not wearing any). Just imagine how much you could save for not going for some extravagant procedure that does not make you look like you!
2. Energy Wasted
The time and energy we waste obsessing over our looks can never return. Time is inevitable. We would grow old and the looks will fade away. We need to embrace our natural looks and move with the time.
3. Lack of motivation
The demand of the society is such that the women want to look good. It has been fed into their brain that if you are not looking your best, you are not desirable and thus would not be able to please anyone. The problem runs deeper than it may appear. There is no one to cheer the woman on being beautiful for their mind and their words or even for their action. Women are often seen to pull the other woman down in order to appear appeasing.
4. Hides the real you
The oodles of foundation and the cakey makeup make the woman less appreciative of their real self. It builds a lot of doubts and it seeps into her nature in every aspect of her life. Putting on the mask like makeup is not to hide the flaws of the skin but it is a mirror to your soul how adaptable and acceptable are you of your own flaws. It is a huge flaw in our own thinking that artificial can make you more accepting of your true identity.
We women need to understand that the true self can only be expressed by one’s nature and their work and not by the appearance. Being vain is not a flaw but depending too much on vanity is. So Nari, bring out your inner Sakti and let the light shine on the new age NariSakti, rather than the made up person. Discover yourself and let light shine on that part of you. #Acceptyourself!
