The journey of a woman – From a homemaker to entrepreneur Part 2

The world only sees the beauty of butterfly and not the struggle during the transition period of the caterpillar. A girl who is trying to find her footing and excel in what she wants, she needs to go through the transition period from the daughter of the house to a successful woman entrepreneur. The journey is tough too. Finding her place in the competitive world irrespective of her father’s name is going to be difficult task. But she can be a successful businesswoman.

In continuation with our previous article about the journey of a woman, today I would continue to explore the obstacles that a girl faces to establish herself as a business woman, before her marriage.

1. Her Family

The family is the biggest support system that a person has, sometimes this support system also turn out to be the worst critic and a hindrance in your growth. Dad’s darlings are always protected. Though they are encouraged to go out and make friends and even work once their education is finished, yet they are not encouraged to start their business. The only business they are allowed to do is to run a boutique or take an agency to sell of home products.  But running a successful business need time and people skill. Parents feel that a girl when finishes her studies should get some work experience and then get married in order to start her family life. But what they often forget is her ambition to be someone and create a name for herself. She is not a property to hand it over to her husband rather she is the one who can work wonders and create a name for herself as well as the family.

2. Society

Our misogynistic society is such it would bring down the woman and try to oppress her in every possible way. Sometimes the society doesn’t let the girls flourish. They believe that the unmarried girl might not get married if she becomes too successful. An eligible match would not be found in case a girl is over-educated or utterly ambitious. This is what is wrong in the thinking of the society. A girl is an asset to her family and society. When a girl works, she provides not only for herself but also gives employment to other girls and women. The society needs to see this and give her the support and space that she deserves.

3. Finances

Before the girl is married, the father is trying to save money for her marriage and her dowry. Let’s be honest, Weddings are an expensive affair. So a father would rather save for that than to invest it in her business. In every form that a girl needs to fill out, she needs to mention either her father’s name or her husband’s. Thus a part of her collateral is always her father. Thus finding investment for her business is never easy for her.

4. Uncertain Future

The biggest issue that a girl faces is to bring in new clients and retain them. The first though that enters anyone’s mind is the longevity of the business. Since it is assumed that a girl might leave her work once she is married.  To get over this ideology, a girl needs to struggle a lot to prove her dedication to her work.

A girl or a woman have a right to pursue the career they wish to irrespective of their marital status.  Man and woman are born equal and thus should be given equal rights to lead their life of choice. Whatever obstacles come, the human being may face it according to their perception regardless of their gender.

To conclude our series, the human nature can cross the hurdles when they decide and dedicate their life towards their aim. A woman is equally capable and can do wonders beating all odds as well as with full support system.
