An author, NLP practitioner, a brilliant cook, a blogger and an artist, not to mention a doting mother, is there anything that you can’t do?

First I would like to thank you for inviting me to be part of your amazing initiative Narisakti. I am humbled by all the epithets you’ve chosen to describe me by. The whole idea of getting into diverse fields was to grow myself mentally, it helps me feel whole and helps me connect to my innermost self.

How did you come into being a NLP practitioner?

Being an army wife, I was fortunate to move around  various places and came in touch with a variety of people. I observed that it was very easy for me to connect with people. I wanted to contribute in some way to make a better world.  I saw people were overwhelmed by what  this conscious mind was doing –  it set them into a cycle of setting goals, on the other hand they were ignoring their unconscious mind, which is where you can learn how to achieve those goals. I genuinely wanted to help people who connected with me, or asked me for a suggestion and NLP was the best way to go about it. I wanted people to look beyond the self limiting philosophies and help them to live more empowered lives, by making value based decisions, gaining vision, clarity and sense of life direction.

How do you balance every role so brilliantly?

I think today women are multifaceted. They are professionals with promising careers and hands-on mothers and wives who hold their families together. It is important to set achievable goals, you need to accept that it is OK to be vulnerable and imperfect sometimes and you need to feel less guilty at such times. You can give your best. To find a perfect balance it is best to understand that this balance is always changing according to your needs, your family and profession.

Please tell us about the e-book “The Woman That I Am.”

“The Women that I Am” is an anthology that provides you a wide variety, from fiction nonfiction to poetry. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is bilingual. It has write ups in Hindi as well as English. My story ‘I am a woman’ features in this anthology. It talks of transgender women, about their life and struggle. My story has been inspired by the lives of Ms Gauri Sawant and Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi who have been doing tremendous work for the up-liftment of transgenders who are silently fighting a battle against ignominy.

What inspires you to write such heartouching and realistic stories on your blog- Deepika’s Musings?

I like to write from my heart. Each story I write is like nurturing a baby. I observe people keenly, listen attentively and that’s how I am able to express myself in my stories. The greatest ideas come from ordinary things. From people around me. I believe that when people read my stories they should feel like they are meeting real people and dealing with believable situations. All my stories are relatable and talk of everyday social or personal events, falling in love, finding success. Also in my stories I like to conjure questions that a reader could face everyday. You can read my stories.

How can women today empower themselves?

I believe education is the single most important thing a woman can do to help herself. Education would mean their willingness to learn new skills, think positive and seize learning opportunities whenever possible. They need to be well informed all the time. A positive mind set goes a long way and can help you stay calm, increase productivity and help you improve your self worth. One very important aspect is self confidence. It empowers women as it gives them the readiness to believe in themselves and enthusiasm to learn, grow and pursue their dreams.
