A cake is now my canvas – Story of Nidhi Kaushal

Nidhi Kaushal

When you see the cakes baked by Nidhi Kaushal just one word comes to mind, stunning. So it will be interesting to ask this baker about her secrets. Another not to be missed fact check on the bio that all cakes are eggless.

Q. Why did you choose baking as a profession?

A. I am a creative person. As a child I used to draw and paint as a hobby. Cooking was also a hobby. So combining two things together I went into home baking.

Today a cake is my blank canvas. Then I let my imagination and creativity run wild. Not only it fuels my passion, it is also therapeutic for me. People do a variety of activities to relieve stress. For me baking a cake is the greatest stress buster. It gives me peace and makes me happy.

Q. What is the difference you bring to baking? How do you pitch yourself in competition with the commercial baking shops?

A. Freshness of the cake. Commercial bakers use factory made premix. It is not possible for a commercial establishment to bake a cake with fresh and all basic ingredients. My cakes are made from scratch. Even the sponge which used as a base is make by me. Also you cannot be sure if it is 100% vegetarian. After all the kitchen, appliances and assembly line are used for both egg as well as eggless variety of cakes. My kitchen cooks only veg cakes right from the beginning.

So these are the two USP of my baking, eggless baking and custom design. Yes there is a huge market for custom made cakes. Theme parties are a hit even in a town like Karnal. So the only element left in the whole setup is the cake, where I come in. Avengers, Harry Potter, Angry Birds are a few examples. Many times I get specific requirements like once I made a replica of an Xbox complete with the controller!

Q. What inspires you to be an independent woman?

A. A chance to pursue my passion. I am from a well to do family. But it is good to be financially independent. What I have learnt is that life is all about getting a chance. Luck factor plays an important role. Rest all is hard work and discovering the sweet spot. With this profession I get a chance to take care of my family commitments by staying at home.

Home baking is not easy. It requires planning and impeccable timing. First I have to plan in my mind as to how the cake will come up. Then the product starts taking shape. I have a vibrant social media presence and a good customer base. Now that you know my secrets, I would be happy if you follow my social media accounts and encourage me to bake more.
