The journey of a woman – From a homemaker to entrepreneur Part 1

journey

She is a child, she is the goddess, she is the mother and she is also a fighter. A woman takes up several roles in one life time and the journey of realizing her Sakti; her true potential never stops.

In a 2 part series on the struggles and obstacles of a woman to become an entrepreneur I would first talk about the journey of a home maker to a businesswoman. She is the lady of the house and called by many other names. In all those names she loses her identity and independence. In order to become an entrepreneur she needs to discover herself first and cross all these hindrances.

1. Her Mind – Her strength and her weakness all lie first in her mind. Once she overcomes this she can move ahead and do anything. She is equipped with the right tool to solve any problem. Be it gaining experience or making partners. She can do wonders once she overcomes the hindrances that her mind made.

2. The Society – The society is male dominant and the rest is governed by the ego that likes to pull the woman down. They have strong opinion about how a woman should act and behave. Sometimes they feel as the owner, dictating. The social norms bind her in chain.

3. The Home front – For a married woman her family comes first. Be it her kids, her husband or the extended family. Even if she wishes to leave the house for work, she needs to make sure that the entire house is in order. The unnecessary pressure of being domestic and being a good wife to keep the house clean and everyone happy takes a toll on her dreams. There are many who are able to strike the balance but without the right support from the members of her family she can never grow.

4. Lack of funds – Even in urban cities women do not have much savings to start her work. Even to take a loan from the bank she does not have any collateral, since she has been financially dependent all her life.

5. Not taken seriously – The biggest hurdle is the mindset of others. Women are objectified and patronized. Even after crossing all the above mentioned hurdles she is able to set up her business, to be able to successfully run it is a herculean task. People working for her and the others with whom she is dealing need not doubt her capabilities.

Nari and her Sakti can completely change the face of business world. All the above holds true even if she wishes to pursue a job. It is her call to be independent without any qualms. When everyone in the family chips in and support each other woman can grow in leaps and bounds.
