After a chance online meeting with Neha Ttalwar Tandon, our interview with the founder of Innovate Crafts came up with a few surprises and handy bits of information for women entrepreneurs.
What is Innovate Crafts
Innovate Crafts is all about Hand Painted products. It was born two years back towards the end of 2017. We started with creative boxes. First we experimented with cardboard boxes which could be reused. Later we settled for hand painted wooden boxes. Today we have products in six categories Gift boxes, Wall art discs, Photo Frames, Book Ends & Fridge Magnets.
We have begun with an online presence and we deliver pan India and international too.
We ask this question to everyone, where did this idea come about?
I am a creative person. I have won a lot of accolades and appreciation for my art work. Earlier I was working in a firm as a jewellery designer. Then marriage and family took priority. Once I got a bit of free time, I decided to try my hand at creative arts and entrepreneurship. I started with paper craft and tried a lot of things till I hit my sweet spot on hand painted gift boxes.
Can you explain your business model in detail?
Each of our product is hand made and hand painted. We use pine wood and sometimes MFD boards. We have hired a wood craft artisan to whom we give our design. There after we paint it as per order and my imagination. Our bookends are in great demand. So are our quirky design Rakhi Boxes. Recently I completed an international order from the USA for 100 fridge magnets. We use the most economical option, India Post to ship international orders. It is simple and easy to deliver through India Post.
We have aggressive plans for expansion. We want to add a few more members in our team, hire a full time woodwork artisan and a dedicated person for digital marketing and online assistant.
That is an awesome journey. Any words of inspiration for our readers?
To start with something new, you need to discover your inner strength. Start with yourself, doing small things. Just only you, no family or friends help.
The beginning is always tough. Orders come in scarce. People ask you how is the business going. Critics make remarks like how much you are earning. I used to smile back in reply. My husband is my greatest support and source of strength. And soon the time came, when the orders became a trickle and now I have my hands full.
What is your USP?
Just because something is made by hand, doesn’t mean it is cheap. We know there is a demand in the market, people who value hand painted stuff. Our wooden boxes are made so well because we want people to reuse it for other purposes also. Even our packing material is eco friendly and reusable too.
