Life of a MUA is about glamour. Happiness and beauty have a deep connect for a woman. But what about the hands that work their magic. Let us ask Sakshi Gogna, the makeup artist of Business Mates Delhi.
Q 1 Saloons and parlours provide all services under a single roof. So why hire a free lance makeup artist?
Ans: It is true that going to a parlour gets you certain advantages. You even get discounted rates and attractive packages. But a free lancer MUA will come to you, at your venue. That will save your time. You get the exact service for what you are paying for. Beauty parlours have overheads like electricity and rent which they will recover from you. For a MUA there is no commercial angle and no cost cutting. Best brands and quality service.
Q 2 How has your experience been so far?
Ans: Time management is a daily challenge for a makeup artist. On busy days we have multiple bookings at different venues. If there is a delay at one place, we have to send messages to the next client. We carry our stuff around ourselves. Tiring but rewarding.
Q 3 Have you thought about getting a job?
Ans: As a free lancer, I am in complete control, free from rules. I can easily scale up my work during seasons. Rest of the time, I can plan my vacation and free time. A job places boundaries but the biggest issue is that most of the money will go to the firm. I will continue as a free lancer as long as I am working. I have plans to earn a lot of money from the Great Indian Bridal industry.
Besides makeup, I also want to train other students or aspirants in this field. I have no plans right now to tie up with any brands, but maybe in the future if the offer is right. What is more important for me is to enjoy work as I used to in the past and see happy smiles on my clients.
