This act for the first time defined sexual harassment. Furthermore, Rule 13(d) makes it compulsory that members of the Internal Committee to be well aware of all definitions, laws, policies and cases. UCG gave the responsibility of PoSH Training to Higher Education Institutions.

Who has to do PoSH Training Courses?

  • Faculty of colleges, schools and institutes

Any citizen of India should attend this course to be a responsible member of the republic. Personally I would also like the law enforcement agencies to make it mandatory for all to have at least 50% staff to be PoSH Certified.

It was in this century only, 2003 to be precise, that Google acquired Blogger and the first version of WordPress was released. Today however it is the short video in portrait mode which has captivated audience worldwide. Does that mean the written word has been relegated to the background. This time we caught up with Suruchi Jain and asked her a few questions. This is the insight we got from her.

Q 1 In this age of reels and shorts, do you think the written word is relevant any more?

Ans Written word seems to be slowly dying for sure. In the world of reels and shorts, everybody’s attention span is dead. People can’t focus on anything for longer than even 10 secs it seems.

I know people who love to read but still can’t focus because the mind has gotten addicted to scrolling and wanting new stimuli every few seconds.

Having said that, I think there is a simplicity to the written word that is absent when it comes to reels. There is a certain sense of calm as well as curiosity to reading. People read the same thing and imagine different things, take out different meanings, have different epiphanies.

Written word is not screaming for your attention, just silently lying there for you to pick if you want to experience calm yet depth.

In short, it does seem to be dying as a mainstream category, but I feel in future it will become a part of another niche – something to do with relaxing, calming down, even meditative for that matter.

Q 2 Do you believe that writing is a way to connect with the world? If yes, how do you go about deciding the topic and content?

I think writing is a way to connect to yourself. I often write about this in my blogs as well – if you’re feeling lost, unclear, overwhelmed – just write. Write down your thoughts, feelings, in as detail as possible and I guarantee you will learn something about yourself from that, or find that little clue for the next step you should be taking to move forward.

Currently, writing these blogs for me is still a way to connect to my inner self. I love sharing it with the world though. I’m not sure if anybody finds value in it – we’ll find out at some point I guess?

About deciding the topic & content – I usually write about something that I have experienced first hand. I think I have the ability to break down human mind complexities into bite-sized emotions and figure out what influences what and how. Typically I just pick up one of these micro internal happenings and write about them. Something that is so small that it may seem insignificant, but might actually bring a deeper change if you understand it.

Q 3 You are maintaining a blog with a custom domain. How much of a technical challenge is it?

Maintaining a blog with a custom domain does not really have any technical challenges as such. I use wix and it is pretty user friendly and a great tool. The bigger challenge with a custom domain is building traffic and readership – getting people to the website.

In a rare astronomical alignment, the sun, moon and Jupiter assemble after a 144 year cycle. That event is marked with the celebration of Mahakumbh.

Jupiter is the largest planet of our solar system and in Vedic Astrology it is called Brihaspati. It is the master teacher and instructor of all Gods and Rishis. Being the largest, it is also the most influential planet in our horoscope. It is associated with knowledge, wealth and spiritual and moral values. 

Otherwise the Kumbh Mela follows a 12 year cycle, again on the positions of sun, moon and Jupiter with the super alignment happening after 12 cycles which brings us to the figure of 144 years. The alignment brings in cosmic and karmic powers to the earth. 

Among the 12 Shiv Ratris, Mahashivratri is the most important and the most auspicious too. No wonder it is the last snan day of the Kumbh Mela. It is celebrated with gusto all across the world and has significance in every place from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. People gather in large numbers at Shiv Temples to offer prayers. Celebrations go on till late night since it is believed that it was night when the marriage of Parvati and Shiva took place. It is believed that on this day Shiv performed his Tandav on earth and transformed into a Shiv Ling.

Women come in in the finery best to offer prayers. White flowers are symbolic for Mahashivratri since the Lord of all universes likes them. The bond between Parvati and Shiv is the one which all women yearn for.

Q 1. How will you compete against big names entering this segment?

Ans. Saree segment is slated for 6% growth each year for the next three years. By the year 2025 this industry will be worth around 61,000 crores. This segment has huge potential. Big names like TATAs and Reliance have already entered and more will follow.

But these big brands have one basic disadvantage. They employ sales persons in storefronts. On the other hand, small business owners like me have the advantage of having a personal touch with customers.

However this is one segment which has huge potential for both big players and small entrepreneurs like us.

I think there is enough space for both of us to co-exist and grow.

Q 2. Do you manufacture or source from manufacturers?

Ans. Most of my stock comes directly from weavers. Sometimes I do purchase from manufacturers and wholesalers.

What I am looking for is authenticity which I need to offer to my clients too. After all it is my reputation on the line. I do not even offer any certificate or tag of authenticity because I believe that my word should be enough.

Q 3. If someone wants to start in a similar segment as an entrepreneur, what is the basic module you would suggest to begin with?

Ans. First you need to begin curating what product you want to sell. For every possible product there is a customer out there who wants to buy it.

Once your product(s) are selected, you can start working on reaching out to the audience. Never go for what others are selling.

Saree business needs passion to understand the mind and heart of your customers.

Q 4. How much important is social media in your line of work where creativity and entrepreneurship go together?

Ans. Social media helps your setup a presence all over the world. If you are online, everyone gets a chance to see, while customers get a lot of choices. But there is a problem here.

We deal with stocks which are available right now. Sometimes we do get the odd and adamant customer who wants that exact saree which she purchased last Diwali. This can happen often on social media where all your posts are visible at all times.

In offline mode we are in charge and have the control to sell stocks which are presently available.

Also saree is something which can be purchased after a touch and feel. So it is better to crack a deal with a customer face to face.

Any updates on your ayurveda course?

I have successfully been able to combine the techniques of Ayurveda with modern nutrition in the form of detox drinks for my clients. Detox drinks have been very popular in ayurveda, though most people believe that the medicines were in herbs and powder form.

Detox drinks are customised as per body type and need. They are herbal in nature and boost immunity greatly. Ayurveda has both healing and curing properties. These drinks are recommended first thing in the morning for optimal effect. They are also great for weight management.

If you are talking about detox drinks, there are already so many reels about those!

Yes, Social media is flooded with info on health and wellness. It is easy and free to follow the accounts which give out such information. But the reality is that they are influencers more than health professionals. We are committed to clients till the job is done. It is our duty to understand the client and solve their problems. Consulting from the internet is more of a one way conversation where you cannot ask questions.

It is a lot easier to just pick up the phone and search over Google. It gives answers to everything you want to know. But at the same time we appreciate serious clients who come to us with an intention of paying us for the efforts which we are going to put in.

The other challenge for us is how to change the habits of clients. Metabolic Balance restoration is mostly a change of habit. My main concern is that people tend to go back to their old habits. Usually the make or break period is two months.

So competing with influencers is difficult?

I would say it is more of a challenge. Being a health professional, I need to have a steady inflow of clients to sustain my brand. That is what worried me the most but that was in the past. These days I am attending a 90 day training program by JiSOT for women entrepreneurs. They told me an interesting concept. Do not wait for or run after clients. Instead spend time in developing your skills, personality and knowledge. All these will give you more confidence. So here is the secret of being a successful entrepreneur. Confidence is the one quality which will get you more clients.

1. Looks disappear

We do not look the same way as we did five years back. We keep changing, evolving physically and mentally. We lose the “good” looks. Lose/ gain weight, and the body keeps altering to include the lifestyle and general life. Good looks can only take into consideration the initial attraction a person might feel.

2. Attraction is different for different people

Some people get attracted to a particular type of physique or sexual orientation. 4. Lust is in no way, love

The attraction part is good only till you collide physically and emotionally. One can have an exciting conversation with a stranger and yet feel a deep connection compared to an attractive couple with nothing in common. Love develops once the lust has worn out.

Love and lust are a state of being. One can easily lust for someone based on how one presents oneself. Love sets in when you understand the person. Accept their flaws, not to change them but to let them be. Love does not see the size, age, sex, or skin color. It only considers the emotions and the thought behind it. One can be in love with oneself. It has nothing to do with procreation but everything to do with the stimulation of the mind and soul (if it stimulates the body, too, that is a cherry on the cake).

Q. What is your aim and approach while making a social media post?

Ans. Firstly I make it clear to everyone that I am not a doctor and I am not eligible to give medical advise. Being a nutrition coach, I deal in information. But knowledge does not come easy. It takes time and research. Then comes the part where I have to arrange information in a way that I can present it as a post on social media. Attention span on social media is very very limited. Catching the eye of a person who is surfing with an introduction, putting across a point and tempting the person to watch another post, all that in just under 30 second.

For my YouTube channel which I began in Nov 2022, the strategy is allowing all the relevant details to come in.

Q. Why does your account have so less followers and likes?

Ans. This is a common question which I get asked. It took me long time to convince myself not to focus on engagement. If my content is captivating and informative, it is the job of Instagram to make it reach the right target audience. After all they also are searching my content.

My focus is working on how to convey information. It has to be scientific facts and scientific logic. My reward is not likes and comments en masse but the few who matter. Like for example I get comments and DMs from doctors and that makes my day.

Since I have to put in so much time in research, for growth I have decided slow & steady wins the race.

Q. How to lose weight fast?

Ans. If you are aiming to lose weight, then you are in trouble. Yes, it is possible to lose weight fast and people do it. There are so many diet options today, Mediterranean diet, ketogenic diet, vegan diet, paleo diet, raw foods diet and so on. Each one claims to be superior to all others. But as per my research and belief, any calorie restrict diet is good enough to lose weight. But it has to be backed up with nutrition rich food. I am totally against starving. Most of our modern day health issues including obesity is due to nutrition deficiency which affects all strata of society and across all income groups.
