Can a woman ever be able to balance responsibilities and artistic pursuits? This question is true for men also who have fallen prey to letting go of their dreams of being a singer, guitar player, painter or chef. The reason behind this is the one word that scares the shit out of everyone – responsibilities!
We all are aware that brain has two parts- Left side that controls the logic and the right side of the brain that is in charge of creative aspects. Creativity is not only restricted towards an art form, it also controls out of box thinking, even in regular work. Studies suggest that to prevent Alzheimer’s disease people should regularly engage in some art form.
Life is all about balance and choices. If you chose to let go of your talent and artistic traits to get into the daily humdrum, two possibilities are there –
- You can forget that you ever had a talent apart from your daily life and work
- The inner artist will take over and it will find time
Our innate qualities are such that how much we suppress them, they have a way to come out and surprise. I have come across many people who are juggling their well-paying career and following their art form. A painter, a musician, a poet, a singer and a crafter, they co-exist with a mother, a teacher, an engineer and a scientist. Their passion for their talent can never be numbed. But if you are finding it hard to balance, let me help you-
Set up a small goal
Make up small goals which are doable and does not overwhelm you. Set targets for each week. Dedicate that time to your talent and art. Soon you will realize that you actually look forward to that time of the week. Mark one time in your calendar or even a weekly planner! Mark one time and make sure that it is visible. Keep it on your work station; there are some apps that let you remember it. Write it down somewhere to remember as writing sends direct signal to the brain, thus it is important to write it somewhere.
Be regular
Don’t skip out on any sessions. Make sure that whatever time and goal you have set up you are able to follow. If in case it is not possible you should compensate it. But never let go of your creative side.
Rekindle
The reason that you are still in touch with the artist inside is because you were in love with that art form in the past. So bring out that love again. Rekindle the love, cherish it and fall in love again. Give it your patience, energy and stir up those emotions that made you follow your heart a while back. There is no need to go in search of a new creativity. Go back to your school days or college days; see and revisit those times, a song scribbled or a doodle created. Rekindle that!
Get Acknowledged
Acknowledgment is the best form of appreciation. When you have a talent and you know you are good at it, you should share it with people. Showcase your art form, put up a show, show it your friends and family and then announce it to the world that the artist is back. If you are able to monetize your work, well and good! It gives you a sense of validation (though not everyone looks for money). But a little bit extra has not harmed anyone.
Join a peer group
There are various social media groups that help you grow. They help you to grow not in the sense of your talent but also be your critic. There are challenges, prompts themes where you can work on your art form.
Impart your knowledge
If you have attained some level of expertise try to teach it. You learn a lot when you teach. You should not constrain your art. Spread the love! You can conduct online classes; teach on YouTube channels as tutorials or on social media. You can create physical group to teach too.
Having the talent is a blessing. Not everyone possesses it, some are able to acquire it too. Many simply hope that they had some sort of an artist within. So never let go of this gift. A true artist does it because it makes you happy. Some artists have achieved great heights where their passion drives them and achieve great success. Whether you are just starting and experimenting or have pursued education in it, the love for the artist within is what shines brightly and becomes food for the soul.
