Ishani Kamdar gives you a daily dose of happiness … for life

Ishani Kamdar

Ishani is a Life Coach and calls herself Thinker in Chief. Now that’s a new one for us. We asked her some normal and unusual questions.

What is the connection between motherhood, self love and mental health?

“Mental health” refers to how people think, feel and act as they face life’s situations. Our mental health affects how we handle stress, relate to one another and make decisions. And mental health influences the way individuals look at themselves, their lives and others in their lives. Like physical health, mental health is important at every stage of life.

Pregnancy and a new baby can bring a range of emotions. In fact, many women feel overwhelmed, sad, or anxious at different times during their pregnancy and even after the baby is born. For many women, these feelings go away on their own. But for some women, these emotions are more serious and may stay for some time.

Depression and anxiety that happen during pregnancy or anytime during the first year after the birth of your baby are medical conditions. These feelings are not something you caused by doing or not doing something. And, they can be treated if you seek help.

My message to all mothers:
Do something for you, like getting out of the house, or taking a hot bath without interruption. If you can, have your partner, a family member, or babysitter watch the baby regularly and go visit a friend or run an errand. Do something you enjoy.
Whether it is listening to music, reading a book, or watching a favorite movie, take a bit of time each day to do something you enjoy.
Be realistic. You don’t have to do everything. You don’t have to have the “perfect” home. Just do what you can and leave the rest. Ask for help. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends, whether it’s caring for the baby or doing household chores.

SELF LOVE-
Self-love is a state of appreciation for oneself that grows from actions that support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. Self-love means having a high regard for your own well-being and happiness. Self-love means taking care of your own needs and not sacrificing your well-being to please others. Self-love means not settling for less than you deserve.
Self-love can mean something different for each person because we all have many different ways to take care of ourselves. Figuring out what self-love looks like for you as an individual is an important part of your mental health. Simple self love activities- bubble bath, reading a book, walk trusting yourself, being authentic & forgiving yourself.

You have a strong Instagram presence, but no paid followers. What’s the plan here?

I believe in organic growth. My page aims to provide value to existing followers & while persuading others to follow for better understanding of mental health & reality of life. Therapishh page is growing slowly & I’m completely ok with it. I will not post content for the sake of posting. But i evaluate, work on my content thoroughly before uploading. My aim is to spread awareness of overall wellness. Social media is a part of my life not whole life. We always have to draw a line otherwise addiction isn’t far. So taking baby steps. I wish to show real side of life, i share my life glimpses, my wins, my losses, my failures, my views unfiltered.

What is the update on the night owl effort?

I’m Guilty of night binging on shows. I’m trying my best to stick ti my schedule, but sometimes me & Shrenik we love to binge & it’s completely ok.

Sleep and mental health are closely connected. Sleep deprivation affects your psychological state and mental health. And those with mental health problems are more likely to have insomnia or other sleep disorders.

So I really like to adhere to a healthy sleep schedule.

I write short term goals & try to achieve them in which always sleep is always included.
A good nights sleep leads to a productive day.
