The simplest business idea is the hardest to implement – Artsy Craft by Deepali Gupta

Artsy Craft

Deepali Gupta is a professional crafter. In the age of touch devices and digital photography, this line of work might surprise. Let us hear from the founder of brand, Artsy Craft on how this old school art and craft form converted into a business idea.

Why is your business idea so simple?

Do you know, people plan grand things and try to wow the world, but it is the simple idea that wins hearts. One such simple idea was a handmade photo album to my husband on his 1st birthday after marriage.

He liked it a lot and suggested why not take orders for others. First I thought he was joking but it got me thinking. That was 2018 and Artsy Craft was born. It took about a year for planning and now I have more than 50 different types of articles under my portfolio.

I am a fashion designer by profession, art and craft is my hobby. Gifting is universal and timeless. Everyone wants their gift to stand out. There are a large number of people out there who believe and promote hand made gifts. Choosing a gift has its challenges. It is always the occasion which pops up at the last minute. On the day of the occasion we realize that, oh it is today. This is where the simplicity of the idea goes complex. In this fast paced world, who has the time to pause and plan gifts in advanced.

How was your journey till now?

I belong to Punjab and when I came to the capital city, I began with zero contacts. I began making contacts one by one, understood customer needs and customized products accordingly. I use standard products like chocolates and other goodies which are commonly available. What makes the difference is the creativity in packing. We pack our products based on range and budget of customers. Such customization cannot be brought from shops or stores. We work for your special occasion, we focus on service. My most part of work goes in repeat customers. I remember on one occasion, the courier company damaged my product in such a way that it could not be presented. I has some spare time and worked overtime to make another one so that both the occasion and the client is happy.

Every business has its ups and downs. How did you deal with your downs?

A down phase in any business is always inevitable. Many times there will be times with no orders. I faced the biggest challenge during lockdown. Since people were not meeting each other, there was no question of gifting. I waited patiently and as situation improved, I began reaching out to my old customers again. At that time, I went back to my beginning times when I began with zero orders. Things have changed a lot and I am back to getting orders. One thing that has helped me all along is creativity and love from my clients.
