Interview with Aastha Kalra – Co Founder of Business Mates Delhi

Business Mates Delhi is launching their largest ever group BM7. After speaking to their founder we turned our attention to Aastha Kalra who is the chip whip and enforces the rules.

Define Business Mates as per your interpretation

Networking is not just about making money. It is there to grow your confidence, face competition, encourage an attitude change and passion for work. Many members assume that this group will generate business for you. That is not possible. BM 7 onwards we are going to keep stressing on this point time and again.

As we keep growing our network we gain experience about our product or service too. Feedback is an important source of knowledge and which direction we should take as entrepreneur. One of the important activity we do is discussing business ideas. Suggestions and tips from members help us understand the future potential of our journey. After members get familiar with each other during the meet up, next step which we encourage is collaboration. All these benefits are only for those members who interact the most.

Duties and Responsibilities – members need to understand

One thing what we have noticed is that a few members are just takers. In fact I believe all women are. But Business Mates Delhi is all about give and take. So it is my advice to all members, learn the concept of give and take. We have clearly defined duties and responsibilities. We shall also be issuing a list of Do’s and Don’ts. This time there will be strict enforcement. If you are a giver, then there is no need to worry.

Inactive members beware

A few members join us and then are totally inactive. We are not looking for numbers. In BM 7 we shall not allow members to remain inactive. We shall be maintaining a report card for all members.

What more changes should we expect?

We are now aiming to have a multi city footprint. This time we shall also have lots of online activities. But in such a scenario there are some categories which we are going to have a relook. Eatables, perishable items and fresh preparations will now be restricted. We shall give more preference to pan India services like garments or education.

Activities and training will be focused mainly on networking only. We shall be teaching networking and how to succeed at it. BM 7 will stress on inter-relationship between members. What we realized that in the past there was a lack of communication amongst members. Our activities will focus on knowing each other so that we can refer each other more.

Co founder Business Mates Delhi

Looks like you have a lot on your hands!

Yes, maintaining a platform like Business Mates Delhi is a lot of work. Now here again I want to stress the point that your annual membership fee is just a token amount for us. We are not making any money out of it. In fact for most of our members that amount is sometimes what we spend on eating out in a week. You get far more benefit from this platform. We, the founders have a lot of running around to do and planning too. During our monthly meet up we reach the venue couple of hours early and then arrange the tables, put up the posters and banners. I have a family just like all members and I am also an entrepreneur. So yes, it is going to be a lot of work. But it has been a totally enjoyable journey till now. We have the platform ready and we want the members to take benefit out of it.
