An Echoing Silence

silence
A pretty damsel
Would come out
To the balcony
Every evening.

A face beautifully chiseled
A body delicately sculpted.
Her beauty
Matchless and flawless,
Could leave the beauty pageants
Envious.

Nevertheless,
This doe-eyed beauty
Reflected deep pain.

Sometimes
She watched and whispered
To the kites soaring high,
As if sending through them
Her prayers and pleadings.

Sometimes
She would scan the pedestrians
In an attempt to spot a soul
Who would listen to her.

Occasionally
She would give a faint smile
But never uttered a word.
She was quiet and
She remained silent,
Though her being spoke volumes.
Yet,
None cared
None dared
To understand
But her eyes expressed something
That remained unsaid...

Her silent presence
Could rarely have missed our attention.
But
Today
Her profound and undeniable absence
Screamed out from the evening newspapers
" A dumb girl, gangraped, hangs herself "
